Abstract

Οι ασθένειες και η αντιμετώπιση τους, οι ουσίες που ευρίσκονται στο φυσικό μας περιβάλλον και μπορούν να λειτουργήσουν θεραπευτικά από τις απαρχές της ιστορίας, τα συνθετικά φάρμακα από την πρώτη χορήγηση τους ως τις μέρες μας, αποτελούν το αντικείμενο του παρόντος έργου. Αναφέρονται, σε όσο το δυνατόν απλουστευμένη μορφή, οι έννοιες που σχετίζονται με τη θεραπευτική δράση των φαρμάκων είτε αυτά είναι συνθετικά είτε φυσικής προέλευσης και παρέχονται πληροφορίες για τον τρόπο ανάπτυξης νέων φαρμακευτικών προϊόντων καθώς και οι εφαρμοζόμενες μέθοδοι για τη διασφάλιση της ασφαλούς και αποτελεσματικής χρήσης τους. Ακόμα και τις πρώτες δεκαετίες του 21ου αιώνα το 80% των ανθρώπων (όπως ανακοίνωσε ο Παγκόσμιος Οργανισμός Υγείας) βασίζουν την πρωτοβάθμια φροντίδα της υγείας τους σε φυτικά προϊόντα. Στην ίδια ανακοίνωση του ΠΟΥ αναφέρεται ότι χρησιμοποιούνται περίπου 21000 φυσικά προϊόντα για φαρμακευτική χρήση. Ορισμένες από τις κατηγορίες φυσικών προϊόντων τα οποία έχουν βιολογική επίδραση όπως αλκαλοειδή, γλυκοζίτες, αμινοξέα, τερπένια, στεροειδή και ορμόνες αποτελούν τα κεφάλαια του παρόντος βιβλίου. Για λόγους πληρότητας αλλά και κατανόησης της επίδρασης της δομής των ουσιών στη βιολογική αποτελεσματικότητα τους αναφέρεται, στις περισσότερες περιπτώσεις και ο συντακτικός χημικός τύπος των ενώσεων αυτών καθώς και η μεταβολή στη δραστικότητα τους που προκαλεί τυχόν τροποποίηση της δομής αυτής. Συνοπτικά, στο τέλος του βιβλίου παρουσιάζονται αλφαβητικά καταχωρημένες και με μικρή ανάπτυξη όλες οι βασικές έννοιες και όροι που αναπτύχθηκαν σε όλη την έκταση του συγγράμματος. The concepts related to the therapeutic action of drugs, whether synthetic or natural, are mentioned in as simple a form as possible, and information is provided on how to develop new medicinal products as well as the methods used to ensure their safe and effective use. Even in the first decades of the 21st century, 80% of people (as announced by the World Health Organization) base their primary health care on herbal products. The same WHO announcement states that about 21,000 natural products are used for pharmaceutical use. Some of the categories of natural products that have biological effects such as alkaloids, glycosides, amino acids, terpenes, steroids and hormones are the chapters of this book. For reasons of completeness, but also to understand the effect of the structure of substances on their biological effectiveness, in most cases the structural chemical formula of these compounds is mentioned as well as the change in their activity that causes any modification of this structure. Briefly, at the end of the book are presented alphabetically registered and with a small development all the basic concepts and terms that were developed throughout the book.
