Περί βιομιμητικής και βιομίμησης

Abstract

Τα γνωστικά πεδία της Βιομιμητικής και της Βιομίμησης ερευνούν και εμπνέονται από τη δομή και τη λειτουργία των οργανισμών, τόσο σε κυτταρικό επίπεδο όσο σε επίπεδο οργανισμού και την αλληλεπίδραση με το περιβάλλον (βιοτικό και αβιοτικό). Στη διεθνή βιβλιογραφία εμφανίζονται δύο παραπλήσιοι όροι, δηλαδή biomimetic (βιομιμητική) και biomimicry (βιομίμηση) που αν και από πολλούς ερμηνεύονται σχεδόν ταυτόσημα, δεν είναι. Ο όρος biomimetic ερμηνεύεται ως βιομιμητική από τις λέξεις βίος (bio) και μιμητική (mimetic). Ο όρος biomimicry ερμηνεύεται ως βιομίμηση ή βιομιμητικότητα από τις λέξεις βίος (bio) και μίμηση ή μιμητικότητα (mimicry). Η βιομιμητική απετέλεσε έμπνευση για την τεχνολογία υλικών, από όπου έχουν προκύψει εξαιρετικές, σύγχρονες εφαρμογές και είναι πολύ πιθανό να προκύψουν άλλες εφαρμογές που δεν μπορούμε να φανταστούμε σήμερα. Η βιομίμηση ή βιομιμητικότητα έχει σχέση και με την απατηλή συνήθως μίμηση χαρακτηριστικών ενός οργανισμού από έναν άλλο οργανισμό, δηλαδή το ξεγέλασμα. Για παράδειγμα, τα άνθη ορισμένων φυτών όπως οι ορχιδέες, έχουν μορφολογία που φαίνεται σαν να μιμείται την εμφάνιση ορισμένων εντόμων για να προσελκυστούν (τα έντομα). Επίσης, ορισμένες πεταλούδες μιμούνται το φύλλωμα για να μην γίνουν αντιληπτές από θηρευτές. Με αυτούς τους όρους περιγράφεται γενικά η σημασία και η αξία της κατανόησης του έμβιου κόσμου και η προσομοίωση πολλών λειτουργικών του διατάξεων.

The fields of the research in Biomimetics and Biomimicry are inspired by the structure and the function of living organisms, both at the cellular and organismic levels and their interactions with the environment (biotic and abiotic). There are two quite similar terms in the international literature, namely biomimetic and biomimicry, which, although interpreted by many as almost identical, are not. The term biomimetic is derived from the terms bios (life) and mimetic (mimesis). The term biomimicry is derived from the words bios (life) and imitation or mimicry. Biomimetic has been the inspiration for material technology, from which excellent, modern applications have been emerged and it is expected that other applications, which we cannot imagine today, will emerge. Biomimicry is also related to the usually deceptive imitation of characteristics of an organism by another organism, i.e., cheating. For example, the flowers of some plants, such as orchids, exhibit a morphology that seems to mimic the appearance of certain insects in order insects to be attracted. Also, some butterflies mimic the foliage to avoid being noticed by predators. The above-mentioned terms describe the importance of understanding the living world and the simulations of many of its functional devices.
