Abstract: |
In this final chapter we discuss Ᾱ-dependencies, drawing special attention to wh-constructions. These structures involve a quantifier and a variable. We follow the same mechanism of internal merge, as in the case of A-dependencies. However, the differences between the two dependencies rely on the different features (and heads) that are involved in the two cases. The analysis extends to relativization, topicalization and focusing. This chapter also has a higher degree of difficulty compared to the previous one, although it remains introductory. Its goal is to combine theory and application on new empirical data. It consists of 5 sections. Section one introduces the Q feature of C; section two analyses the formation of wh-questions, while section three extends this mechanism to relative clauses. Section four introduces locality, while section five discusses topic and focus constructions.
