Abstract:
In this chapter, the issue of selecting a participation method to be used in a specific participatory planning exercise is discussed. In this respect, a range of factors of decisive importance for the choice of participation method are elaborated. Based on the specific attributes of each single participation method as well as the role of participation in each stage of the planning process, presented in previous chapters; and the knowledge of the factors affecting the selection of participation method discussed in this chapter, is next delineated the relevance of the various participation methods to each specific stage of the participatory planning process from both a technocratic and a democratic participatory approach.
