Description: | |
Abstract: |
This important chapter includes both didactic and mythological epic, which flourished in Late Antiquity. Representative texts are chosen from the Halieutics of Oppian, On human initiatives of Maximus as well as from the Posthomerica of Quintus of Smyrna and the Dionysiaca of Nonnus. All are ecquipped with a commentary which elucidates them from many angles including linguistic assistance. Visual material is provided (the asterism of Capricorn) and a link to a lively description of the profession of Kalymnian sponge-divers.
