| Abstract: |
This is an introductory chapter which presents a general overview on the Earth’s atmosphere and its regions. It provides basic material on the chemical composition and evolution of the atmosphere, the vertical atmospheric structure, the nomenclature and properties of the various atmospheric “spheres”. Also, it includes general information on atmospheric electricity, the earth’s ionosphere, and the magnetosphere.
