Description:
Abstract:
The use of electricity was the crucial prerequisite for the development and evolution of modern houshold appliances. The mixture of primary energy sources used for the generation of electricity dtermines to a great extent the environmental impacts assciated with the use of household appliances.
Thus, the aim of the chapter is to study the electricity system in Greece. At first, electricity generation from fossil primary sources is studied (lignite, natural gas, cude oil). Then, electricity generation from renewable energy sources (hydro, solar, wind) is studied. The environmental, economic and social impacts of each option are analysed. In addition, the evolution of electricity generation in Greece and Europe in the course of the years is presented.
